Fun fact: Siesta Key Beach was ranked number 1 in America by Dr. Beach in 2011 and has been listed among the top 10 beaches for a number of years.
What to See
Heron’s Run and McIntosh Apartments are located in Sarasota, Florida. Sarasota is located on the Southwest coast of Florida, approximately 52 miles south of Tampa, also known as the southern anchor of the Tampa Bay region. Total size of this region is approximately 573 square miles; this includes Sarasota, Venice, Northport, and Longboat Key. Sarasota is known for it’s balmy weather, beautiful beaches, and a thriving economy that make it a great place to live and work. The County’s 35 miles of beaches along the Gulf of Mexico and Sarasota Bay are world famous for the purity of their white quartz sand. The total water area in Sarasota consists of 154 square miles.
Sarasota County offers convenient traveling to many major cities due to its close proximity to interstate 75. The combination of roadways and bridges, marinas and canals, make for an easy commute for those who live in Sarasota. U.S. 41 and U.S. 301 run parallel to I-75, moving travelers north to south. Clark Road, Bee Ridge Rd, Fruitville Rd. and University Pkwy. run from east to west.
What to Do
Travel and Tourism is among one of the highest means of revenue generated in Sarasota. With Sarasota known as “the Cultural Coast” it offers a number recreational activities for those both living and visiting here.
Galleries, Museums, and other attractions include: John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art, Crowley Museum and Nature Center, Museum of Asian Art, Museum of the Circus, Selby Gallery at Ringling School of Art and Design, and South Florida Museum. Music and Dance include: Florida West Coast Symphony, Jazz Club of Sarasota, Sarasota Ballet of Florida, Sarasota Opera, and The Venice Symphony. Theatres include: FSU/Asolo Center for the Performing Arts, Florida Studio Theatre, and Van Wezel Performing Arts. There are a number of other smaller theatres such as: Banyon Theatre Company, Golden Apple Dinner Theatre, McCurdy’s Comedy Club theatre, and Players of Sarasota. Sarasota offers some of state’s best dining. It includes an array of cuisines from many cultures such as Amish, Asian, Cajun, European, French, Italian, Middle Eastern, and Pacific Rim. Below is a list of links for several of these great eats and my favorites.
The major forms of public transportation are provided by the following: Amtrak, Sarasota County Area Transit, Senior Friendship Center, and Trolley Systems of America, Inc. There are three major airports that serve Sarasota County; they are Sarasota Bradenton International Airport, Tampa International Airport, and St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport. Also, the Venice Municipal Airport in the City of Venice is easily accessible via U.S. Hwy. 41.
Sarasota has become known for its employment opportunity. Major employers in the area include: School board of Sarasota, Sarasota Memorial Heath Care System, Publix Supermarkets, Sarasota County Government, PGT industries, Sun Hydraulics Corporation, Tervis Tumbler, Venice Regional Medical Center, Doctors Hospital of Sarasota, Sunset Automotive Group, Goodwill Industries, Longboat Key Club & Resort, and The Ritz Carlton of Sarasota. The closest military base is MacDill Airforce base, located in Tampa Florida.
